The Wakefield hat
Unisex and timeless in design, the Wakefield is a simple knit with an intriguing traveling rib stitch pattern. Warm and cozy, with a bit of a slouchy style, this hat is knitted in the round. It is a written pattern with abbreviations.
Two video links are included. One for the 3 needle bind off and one for the optional pompoms.
Options:
The pattern can easily adapted to be even more slouchy by adding another repeat (or two) of the stitch pattern.
You may add pompoms for a fun touch (how to video link included).
Two finishing options available, and you can choose from sizes S/M/L. The small size would be great for a teenager.
This project is suitable for the beginner knitter.
Yarn:
Softness, a worsted weight yarn in a soft blend of merino and an antibacterial Dralon by www.yarnz2GO.com, one skein in the color Steel, or 150 yards of a soft worsted weight yarn for sizes S and M regular length.
NOTE: The L size or adding more ridges to make a more slouchy hat will require more yardage.
Alternatively you can use a kid seta yarn and a sport weight smooth yarn held together.
Notions:
US size 5 (3.75mm) circular needle 16” (40.5 mm) in length, or double pointed needles if you prefer.
Darning needle.
Gauge:
20 sts and 28 rows = 4 inches, knitted in Stockinette stitch.
Abbreviations:
CO = cast on
K = knit
M = marker
Rep = repeat
P = purl
Pl m = place marker
WS = wrong side/ purl side
RS = right side/ knit side
k2tog = knit 2 stitches together
